Highlights

The May/June issue of “Eletricidade Moderna" is online. The article “Decreasing arc detection transmission time”, on page 18, presents a proposal to reduce incident energy in input cubicles of a substation by reducing the transmission time from arc detection to the main substation using communication based on IEC 61850 standard. IEDs associated with a high-speed communication network were used to transfer the protection signal. See on page 26 the article “Use of drones for transmission lines inspection”, which makes an economic analysis through a case study, comparing costs of traditional inspection with those of implementing and using drones, and applying tools to support comparative analysis to identify the most suitable inspection conditions. Furthermore, on page 48, the article “Modern philosophy of efficient and lower cost underground grids”, reporting how, with the use of techniques and philosophy different from those adopted in traditional underground grids in Brazil, it was possible to greatly reduce the cost of implementation and speed up installation works, minimizing inconvenience to urban centers. This issue brings also the update “High efficiency motors”, “Products for building electrical installation” and “Prefabricated substations” buyers’ guides.
