Highlights

The March/April issue of “Eletricidade Moderna” is online. The article “Arc fault devices complement fire safety”, on page 28, brings up a discussion on whether or not the AFDD is mandatory. Older installations are not always provided with DR devices. When they are, such devices provide only partial protection against fires of electrical origin. Arc fault detection devices (AFDD), on the other hand, close the gap between DR and constructive fire safety measures. See on page 36 the article “Simplified satellite substations for improvement of DEC and FEC”, which describes the solution developed by Enel Rio to improve the indicators of continuity of supply of its network, whose configuration is predominantly radial with long feeders: satellite substations, which allow the positioning of the centers of cargo distribution closer to the consumption centers, using shorter lines and with fewer consumers connected. Furthermore, on page 46, the article “An analysis of the IT grounding schemes" (part 1), examining the current state of standardization. Classical applications are medical sites, sensitive industrial processes, controlled drives in the basic industry and others. The energy transition brings new segments, such as electromobility and direct current systems. This issue brings also the new “Polymeric products for overhead power distribution grids” and “Software for power management in smart buildings”, and the update “Surge protection devices” and “Products for electrical panels” buyers’ guides.
